Chicago-Style Politics

Democrat Gov Rod Blagojevich of IL and his Chief of Staff have been arrested on federal corruption charges. He's trying to sell the vacated Obama Senate seat among other things:

According to the statement, Blagojevich is alleged to have discussed obtaining:

  • a substantial Italicsalary for himself at a either a non-profit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions;
  • placing his wife on paid corporate boards where he speculated she might garner as much as $150,000 a year;
  • promises of campaign funds -- including cash up front;
  • a Cabinet post or ambassadorship for himself

None of the stories up on Foxnews.com, MSNBC.com, ABCNEWS.com, CNN.com include the Governor's party affiliation. I'm watching live coverage now- none of the networks are mentioning his party affiliation. The only way I knew what his party affiliation was a picture of this guy on Foxnews that occasionally comes up with a "D" behind his name.

If this guy were a Republican, he'd be a household name and everybody would know which party he belonged to.

I heard this on Boortz this morning. You didn't have to tell me his party affiliation. Once I heard what he did, I knew immediately.

More proof that many (not all, but many) so-called "non-profits" are tax shelters staffed by people looking for political rewards with a fat salary. These organizations often take tax money and pay none while they do stupid "community" activities like bring more people from other countries/states to leech off the local welfare system.

Read from page 56 on. Watergate-like material. Who knows if any of the Advisors or Individuals talked to Obama staffers. We'll see who gets called to testify and who takes the 5th???

Tony Rezko pops up again in here, same guy who gave Obama his sweetheart land deal:

Walls are closing in on him before the inauguration occurs...

Link didn't post all the way through:

A good quote from Rod:

At one point, Blagojevich, a Democrat, complained that Obama's team wasn't "willing to give me anything except appreciation. [Bleep] them."

It has been said that the coverup is worse than the crime. You decide from these statements:

The president-elect was blunt and brief in addressing the case on Tuesday: "I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening" concerning any possible dealing about Blagojevich's appointment of a successor.

His statement that he didn't have contact with Blagojevich about the Senate seat seems to conflict with that of top adviser David Axelrod, who told Fox News Chicago on Nov. 23: "I know he's talked to the governor, and there are a whole range of names, many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them."
